SNOW REPORTING AT SKI & RIDE SMITHERS
Readings are performed manually, by gathering data from the Mid Mountain Weather Plot ( 1440m ), nearby the Panorama Day Lodge.
3 Readings are taken during the day:
5:00am – by Groomers
8:00\8:30am – by Ski Patroller
12:00\12:30pm – by Ski Patroller
The Website is updated with the information accumulated. The Website is also updated with any changes in conditions during the course of the day.
The Weather Plot ( 1440m )
The weather plot consists of the following :
3 weather boards : 1 – Storm Board 1 – Standard Board 1 – Interval Board
1 snow depth stake
2 thermometers : 1 – Minimum and Current Temp Thermometer 1 – Maximum Temp Thermometer
The weather boards provide current snowfall information and also allows wind drift to be taken into consideration. The Snow depth stake measures the alpine base and the thermometers provide the relevant temperatures.
Wind readings are taken manually with a windmeter at the top of the Panorama T-bar ( 1676m ) prior to opening. A reading is also taken from an anemometer that transmits its information to the display pannel located in Base 1.
Patrollers monitor the conditions throughout the day and will advise on any warnings/updates and take necessary wind readings.
